ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called on President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday and discussed the overall situation in the country.
The meeting that took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr focused on economy, China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), energy projects, law and order, and the situation on the Line of Control, working boundary and Indian held-Kashmir.
The PM informed the president about the policies and initiatives of the government in various sectors to put the country on the path to sustainable progress and improve living standards of the people by strengthening the national economy, a statement issued by the President’s House said.
“President Mamnoon praised the economic policies of the government resulting in revival of the national economy and benefits of progress being passed on to the common man. He expressed his satisfaction over the confidence reposed by international financial institutions in the government’s economic policies,” the statement said.
The president and the prime minister reaffirmed that the government would continue to accord top priority to its agenda of economic progress throughout the country and called upon all segments of society to support the government in the timely completion of all development projects.
Both leaders expressed their resolve to ensure smooth and timely completion of CPEC projects, which would prove to be a harbinger of unprecedented economic prosperity in Pakistan as well as in regional countries.
“They emphasised that CPEC will equally benefit all areas of the country and hoped that the country would be rid of electricity load-shedding upon completion of energy projects by 2018,” the statement said.
The president and the prime minister reviewed results of Zarb-e-Azb operation and expressed their satisfaction over its success. Both leaders resolved that the operation would continue in all areas of the country against all miscreants and terrorists without any discrimination in order to achieve lasting peace.
They commended the sacrifices of the armed forces, police and law enforcement personnel in the fight against terrorism and extremism. The president and the prime minister also reviewed the regional situation and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to maintain friendly relations with all neighboring countries for peace and prosperity in the region.
The prime minister and president condemned the atrocities being perpetrated against innocent Kashmiris and continued violations on Line of Control by India and urged the international community to help put an end to grave human rights violations and resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions, the statement added.
