ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) had summoned the secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) officials to inquire about the election record of 29 polling stations in the NA-110 constituency.
Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif won the NA-110 seat in 2013 general elections after getting 92,803 votes, while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Usman Dar bagged 71,525 votes in 2013. Dar challenged Asif’s victory in the Election Tribunal, but the tribunal decided against him which made him approach the Supreme Court. The reference was heard by a three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali.
The court asked ECP about the missing record of 29 constituencies to which the ECP replied that it might have lost in other bags. The court then said that it is possible and should be found out. It also asked for detailed record of Khawaja Asif’s constituency.
PTI leader Jehangir Tareen said that there is no record of about 30, 000 votes from this constituency. He added that if this continues to happen, then no one will show up to vote in the next elections.
