ISLAMABAD – Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar on Saturday said that former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal did not present any solid evidence and that judicial commissions cannot be formed on basis of mere allegations.
Addressing a media conference, Nisar said Kamal was a prominent leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), adding that he went to Dubai and returned as per his own wish. He said Kamal didn’t say anything new and didn’t present any documentary evidence.
He said an investigation committee was formed the next day of Sarfraz Merchant’s press conference and that the government has decided to make legal proceedings in the case. The minister said that the previous government did not show any development over money laundering and Imran Farooq murder case and that it is this government that is pursuing those cases.
Nisar said the investigation team wants to interview Merchant for which the issue will be taken up with the British government. He said he wants to assure everyone that no one will be subjected to injustice. He said Imran Farooq murder case is a serious issue and he is disappointed over slow development on it by the British side.
Talking about national cricket team’s participation in World T20, he said the team will go to India to review security situation and that green signal to go to India will not be given until the security team is satisfied by the arrangements.
He said the cricket team will leave for India on Wednesday if the security team has a positive report otherwise the departure could be delayed. The minister said that providing security to the national cricket team is also ICC’s responsibility. He said it is important not to subject the cricket team to politics.
