The Supreme Court of Pakistan has officially announced its summer vacation schedule for 2026. As per the notification, the Court will observe its summer break from June 15 to September 14, 2026. While the Court will be on recess, it assures the public that its offices will remain open during this period.
Despite the summer break, important or urgent cases may still be scheduled for hearings, ensuring that essential judicial services remain available. The Court’s decision to keep operations running during the holidays will allow it to continue addressing pressing matters even while most judicial activities pause.
This announcement follows a recent change in 2025 when the Court reduced the length of its summer vacation to address the growing backlog of cases. For the summer of 2025, the break was shortened by one month, with the holiday period starting on June 16 and ending on September 8. The move was part of an effort to ensure that judicial processes could continue while still providing judges some time off.
The Chief Justice had instructed the judges to take only one month off, marking a significant shift in the traditional long summer break. This decision was made to improve efficiency and reduce the backlog of pending cases. Judges were also asked to remain available for 15 days during the vacation period to work on cases if necessary, further ensuring continuity in the Court’s operations.
The 2026 summer vacations will follow a similar structure, with judges expected to balance their time between rest and handling urgent legal matters. By keeping the Court’s functions ongoing, the Chief Justice aims to enhance the accessibility of justice while managing the demands of an increasingly busy legal system.
