ISLAMABAD: The paramedical staff of Soura Institute of Medical Sciences in Indian-held Kashmir staged a protest against the killing of civilians and the unabated use of pellets on the protesters on Tuesday, even as curfew and restrictions entered second month.
The protesters were holding placards seeking an end to genocide of Kashmiri people. They demanded an immediate ban on the use of pellets against the unarmed innocent civilians which is taking heavy toll on the lives of Kashmiris, especially their eyes and vital organs, Kashmir Media Service reported.
The protest was organised in the hospital compound and was led by the Jammu and Kashmir Nursing Association General Secretary Javed Ahmad Mir. Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Mir condemned the disproportionate use of force on the protesters. He said that the killing of innocent civilians cannot be justified in any way.
Mir said that it was quite unfortunate that even the hospital staff and ambulances were not spared. He said that the personnel of armed forces damaged hospital machinery and ambulances. He added that such incidents hamper the patient care and creates fear among the patients and their attendants.
He said that indiscriminate use of pellets had resulted in serious injuries to the youth besides lifelong disabilities. A nurse at the hospital Memoona said, “Ours is a noble profession and nobody should play with the sanctity of our profession. We should be allowed to work freely so that we can provide best treatment to the injured.”
Meanwhile, activists of pro-India National Conference also took out a protest march in Srinagar. Holding placards, the protesters also staged a sit-in and shouted slogans against the puppet administration.
